Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Chinese embassy in Moldova donated over 700 books in Chinese to the Ion Creanga National Library for Children in Chisinau today.
Chinese Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Moldova Tong Mingtao attended the event.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, Tong Mingtao said that this was not the first donation of books for children made by the embassy to Moldovan children studying Chinese.
"For many years, we have provided books both to libraries and universities of Moldova. It is very important for the Chinese government and the Chinese embassy that those interested in the Chinese culture know it well. It is also very important to bring up children who love books. Choosing the books was very thorough. I hope all children like these books. China and Moldova are friendly countries and I am confident that these friendly relations will further develop, "said the Chinese diplomat.
For her part, Ion Creanga National Library for Children Director Claudia Balaban said that the institution she led had collaboration and friendship relations with the Chinese embassy to Moldova.
"China has an ancient and remarkable culture and we must know it. Since 2006, we have been celebrating the Chinese New Year at the library each spring. We also organise other cultural activities devoted to the Chinese culture. We are happy that the Chinese embassy actively participates in each issue of the International Book Fair for Children, always offering donations of books, "Claudia Balaban added.
The Chinese language has been studied at the M. Berezovschi and Socrates lyceums from Chisinau starting from 2014.
