More than 1.2 million Moldovans vote till 19:00

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ - All electoral bureaus of Moldova work as normal, and the voter turnout stood at over 44 per cent by 19:00, the head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Iurie Ciocan, has said at a news briefing.
According to Ciocan, the highest rate of participation in the voting was recorded in the Pocrovca village, northern Donduseni district - more than 85 per cent. The lowest one was registered in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, southern Moldova.
"As many as 39 per cent of the voters recorded in the lists gave their ballots till 19:00 in the Chisinau electoral district. In Balti (Moldova's second largest settlement), the voter turnout is 41 per cent. We have first-level districts where the participation rate of 25 per cent has not been reached as yet. A voter turnout of 14 per cent was recorded at an electoral bureau in Soroca," Ciocan said.
The CEC head specified that more than a half of the citizens who had come to vote till 19:00 were over 50 years of age.
The citizens will elect 898 mayors and 11,680 local councillors at the today's election. Seventeen persons have put forward their candidacies for the Chisinau mayor office.
