Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ - More than 1,386,000 citizens today came to polling stations to elect the local leadership bodies. The head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Iurie Ciocan, has made statements to this affect at a news briefing.
According to Ciocan, the voter turnout on Moldova was 48.95 per cent, by almost five per cent less than in 2011. "The highest rate of participation in the ballot was recorded in Donduseni - over 58.8 per cent. The lowest one - in the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri, southern Moldova.
"As many as 47.40 per cent of the voters registered in lists gave their ballots in the Chisinau electoral district. In Balti, the voter turnout was 48.10 per cent. Less than one quarter of the electors recorded in lists came to the polling station in the Ulmu settlement, central Ialoveni district, and a re-run ballot will be organised there," Ciocan said.
The CEC head specified that the ballot papers and the CEC's assets had been deteriorated in the Topala settlement, southern Cimislia district.
