Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - The leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Marian Lupu, at a today's news conference  said that local general polls showed that pro-European parties still enjoyed support of citizens. Lupu described the polls' outcomes as very good.

Marian Lupu noted the need to build a solid pro-European majority in Moldova as soon as possible.

"We very happy that, in 24 districts of the country, we have the opportunity to create pro-European coalition councils," said Lupu.

As for the percentage got by Monica Babuc in Chisinau, the PDM leader said she "understood the message of the people from Chisinau" and that "her team will work harder in the long run". He also said that in Chisinau "the vote is a political one, and citizens do not vote for candidates based on skills, but on the geopolitical options."

The PDM candidate for the office of mayor, Monica Babuc, picked up 2.17 per cent of the votes. Democrats were elected in the office of mayor in the first round in 181 town halls. Liberal Dorin Chirtoaca (37.57 per cent) and Socialist Zinaida Greceanii (35.69 per cent) were on the first positions in Chisinau.
