Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) was launched today at a ceremony attended by central authorities, EU Commission, representatives of the Agency for Energy Efficiency, Energy Efficiency Fund and European Energy and Biomass Project.
This is the second issue of the event held in Chisinau on an initiative by the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova.
"One of our objectives is to provide citizens with sustainable energy at reasonable prices, following the example of European countries, and for this the Economics Ministry is implementing a string of actions resulting from national energy policies, as well as international treaties," said Deputy Economics Minister Tudor Copaci in his inaugural speech at EUSEW. He added that Moldova can turn into account "a great potential of renewable energy sources."
For his part, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola mentioned that renewable energy sources primarily represented an energy security alternative for Moldova. "We have a common goal of providing 20 per cent of the energy volume from renewable energy sources by 2020. This is vital both for our lives and for the planet, "noted the head of the EU Delegation.
The European Sustainable Energy Week will have a large-scale schedule. On 16 June, 50 children participating in the ENERGEL summer camp will hold a flash-mob to promote the use of clean energy, and a string of conferences and events dedicated to energy efficiency and sources of renewable energy will take place on 17-18 June, with participation of academic environment and development partners.
The Economics Ministry will organise, in cooperation with the TA-SPSP Energy project, financed by the European Union, open discussions on improving the energy efficiency, titled “Energy is too expensive to be wasted,” in the Stefan cel Mare public garden.
The European Energy Week will end with the third issue of the SUN Da-I Fest 2015 festival, that will include public debates, fairs of eco products, contests with prizes, entertainment activities for adults and children, as well as a concert of live music supplied by solar energy.
