Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - The 14 June local general elections were organised in efficiently and citizens were provided with a diversified voting option,, according to the conclusion by international observers accredited by OSCE Mission.
At a today news conference, the head of the OSCE Election Observation Mission, Kimmo Kiljunen, specified that the elections were organised fairly, even if that some infringements had been discovered both during the monitoring of the electoral period, and on the election day.
Kiljunen listed among the infringements „incomplete and vague financial reports submitted by electoral contenders to the Central Electoral Commission and the fact that an electoral competitor was assaulted, another one was dismissed and the other three did not suspend their public activity on the fixed period."
Kiljunen specified that the 14 June elections had been well organised, though ”the secret of vote has not been always observed."
The Council Europe’s and European Union’s observers, Amy Koopmanschap and, respectively, Arnold Abramavicius backed the idea that, to strengthen democracy in Moldova, „the decentralisation process should be continued”. They also underlined that the present electoral campaign „was focused on personalities and not on political platforms”.
Among the recommendations, the observers stressed the need to improve the voter lists and to amend a provision, according to which in order to participate in local general elections an independent candidate needs 10,000 signatures, as „it does not support the motivation of persons, especially of young people who want to get such posts”.
The local general elections were monitored by 2,215 observers, of whom 32 accredited by the OSCE Bureau.
