More European insitutions provide grant for restoration of streets in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 16 June /MOLDPRES/ - The incumbent mayor of Chisinau, Dorin Chirtoaca, is set to carry out capital restoration of six streets in the centre of Chisinau within the next 2-3 years.
Dorin Chirtoaca, on a visit to a construction site today, said that, for the first time ever, a new way of repairing roads would be used in Moldova by applying a geo-textile layer, “that will ensure toughness of asphalt layers".
"The main streets of the capital will get a new warranty for the next 50 years. The roads will be repaired according to European practices and bicycle paths will be something normal", said the acting mayor.
Chirtoaca also promises to residents restoration of another three streets and widening of the other ones to ease traffic.
The Chisinau City Hall received a grant worth 22 million euros from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Union for the restoration of the six streets in the centre of the capital.
Dorin Chirtoaca is the Liberal Party’s candidate for the office of Chisinau mayor for the third term in a row. Following the 14 June election, he picked up most votes from Chisinau residents (37.57 per cent). Chirtoaca will face Socialist Zinaida Greceanii, who got 35.69 per cent of the ballots, in the runoff election, due on 28 June.
