Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Natalia Gherman today met Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.

Minister Natalia Gherman appreciated Romania’s support for the European agenda of Moldova, both at the political level, through messages and actions taken within EU, and at the practical one, through the exchange of experience and best practices in various areas.

"Romania’s commitment to support the European integration of Moldova is already yielding tangible results in areas of major importance for our country's modernisation, such as energy security and modernisation of transport infrastructure," said the Moldovan diplomat.

The officials reviewed the progress within projects implemented in Moldova with the support of the Romanian authorities and spoke out for strengthening economic exchanges, Romania being Moldova’s principal trade partner.

For his part, Minister Bogdan Aurescu positively appreciated the outcome of the 14 June local elections. "This is a clear choice of the Moldovan citizens for the European values and European course of the country, with the respective expectations on behalf of the Moldovan authorities," said the Romanian counterpart.

At the same time, Aurescu reiterated Romania's support for Transnistrian conflict settlement by political means, with the observance of Moldova's territorial integrity. "We need a speedy resumption of the five-plus-two negotiations, with the constructive commitment of all participants and avoiding any unilateral actions", said Foreign Minister Aurescu.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers presented a special commemorative envelope with an inscription, "5 years since the establishment of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and Moldova for the European integration of Moldova (2010-2015)".
