Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan citizens with right to vote staying abroad may pre-register online to participate in the presidential polls due on 30 October 2016.

The press service of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today said that the citizens were invited to access the webpage www.alegator.md and fill in the registration form and the electronic declaration in the column  „Înregistrare prealabilă” (Preliminary Registration), thereby expressing will to take part in the elections.

Subsequently, the voter will receive confirmation on preliminary registration at the email put down in the form. “The period of preliminary registration will end 40 days before the election day,” the CEC press service said.

The preliminary registration will allow identifying the major concentrations of voters, in order to set up additional polling stations. After the registration period is over, the information on the number of citizens who have pre-registered will be submitted to government for taking a decision on the need to open additional polling stations outside the diplomatic missions and consular offices.

“The citizens who have pre-registered will be automatically removed from the basic electoral list according to the domicile. This erasing will be temporary and will be valid only for the presidential polls due this year,” the cited source added.

The data collected following the preliminary registration will be processed exclusively for the organization and holding the elections. It will be protected in line with the law on personal data protection, and will not be disclosed to any state institution of Moldova or from abroad, excepting the cases clearly stipulated in the legislation in force.
