Group of Moldovan lawmakers to work out draft on Constitution's amendment

Chisinau, 6 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s Constitution might be completed with a new article, which would set the state’s orientation “to the European space of values.” The parliament today approved the creation of a working group due to elaborate a draft to this end.
The group will be made up of lawmakers, specialists of the parliament’s secretariat, State Chancellery, experts constitutionalists and foreign policy experts. The factions of the Party of Socialists, Liberal Democratic Party, Liberal Party and Party of Communists refused to delegate MPs to this group.
Under the parliament’s decision, the members of the group, in a 45-day term, will propose amendments to the Constitution, after which the draft law will be submitted to the Constitutional Court for approval.
The initiative according to which the European integration must become a strategic priority, provided for in the Fundamental Law, has been earlier announced by the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc. The PDM leader said that the orientation towards the European space was a defining element of Moldova’s constitutional identity.
