Rector of Free International University of Moldova dies

Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/- Rector of the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM) Andrei Galben, considered as the founder of the private education from Moldova, died of heart attack at the age of 69 on the night of 16 to 17 December.
The sad news was confirmed by the ULIM first deputy rector, Ana Gutu, and the University’s deputy rector, Elena Prus. Contacted by MOLDPRES, Prus said that, on 16 December evening, along with the departed rector and some colleagues, she participated in a programme on the Moldova 1 TV channel.
Andrei Galben was born in the Slaveanca village, central Sangerei district, on 2 September 1948. He studied at the Moldovan State University and got his doctor’s degree at the Academy of Sciences in 1975. Galben worked as teacher at the general school No 1 from Sangerei, assistant at the State University of Moldova; afterwards, he was assistant, lecturer, senior lecturer, then university professor and head of the old and medieval history department of the Chisinau-based Ion Creanga Pedagogical University. In 1992, the academician founded the Free International University of Moldova.
Professor Andrei Galben is corresponding member of the Paris School of International Affairs (1996), academician of the Academy for Peace and Progress from Washington (1996), academician of the American Biographical Institute (1997), honorary member of the Medicine Academy from Poland (1998), academician of the World Academy from Warsaw (1999).
Andrei Galben was awarded the gold medal of the American Association of Jurists, Diploma of Honour of the Alabama University, USA, Diploma of Honour and member of the Council of Honour of the School of International Affairs from France, the first degree Big Gold Medal of the Albert Schweitzer Medicine Academy from Poland, the Eminescu Integral medal, Labour Glory Order, Order of the Republic. He is also laureate of the GALEX National Prize for the best founder of library. Galben is author of more than 400 didactic and scientific works.
Rector Andrei Galben will be buried on 20 December. va fi înmormântat miercuri.
