Chisinau, 5 January /MOLDPRES/ - A national register of emissions and transfer of polluters will be implemented in Moldova starting from 2018. The document is conceived as an electronic database, which will be accessible to public and will contain data on the polluters emitted of transferred, from a variety of sources, which may have a potentially harmful effect on the environment.
According to the head of the directorate for policies of management of waste and chemical substances at the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry, Svetlana Bolocan, the creation of this register will facilitate the working out of national reports within multilateral treaties on environment, Moldova is party to.
“By the public presentation of information on polluting emissions, we are set to enhance the awareness of the main sources of threat for health and environment and to urge the society to take part in the decision-making process related to such threats,” Svetlana Bolocan noted.
At the same time, the creation of the national register of polluters will oblige economic agents to work out annual reports on emissions and transfers of polluters. This will provide a stimulus for reducing the pollution level and promoting ecological production systems and healthier communities and ecosystems.
The creation of the National Register is carried out with the support of an international specialty project, implemented by the Environmental Pollution Prevention Office, Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry, by common consent with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, financed by the Global Environment Fund.
