Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/- Moldova is paying gas consumption on time, Economy and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici said at a today's meeting with the deputy head of Gazprom company Valeri Golubev. The minister reiterated the importance of signing an agreement on restructuring of past debts for gas delivered by the Russian concern to Moldova.

Golubev has welcomed the payment of current gas consumption by Moldova and noted that the restructuring of historical debts can only be achieved by maintaining the payment of 100% current expenses.

In this context, the minister said that the implementation of the investment projects for the modernization of CET-Nord and Termoelectrica will contribute to increasing the efficiency of the enterprises and thus will be able to meet their financial obligations to the gas suppliers.

“Both companies have developed and initiated dialogue with the gas supplier on the approval and signing of the Memorandum of historical debt rescheduling, given the current economic realities. Tackling historical debt issues is a priority of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure. We are open and we want to have a constructive collaboration in this respect," Gaburici said.

The sides also approached the possibility of extending the gas contracts in Moldova after 2019, under similar circumstances to the previous years. “Moldova is trying to diversify its sources of gas supplies, and we take into account Gazprom's important role in the region and in Europe. Diversification of networks means maintaining current sources and development of new sources,” he said.
