Twenty nine children put in hospital with intoxication when resting at summer camp in south Moldova town

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 29 children with ages from 7 to 14 years in the last weekend were put in hospital with intoxication when they were resting at a summer camp in the southern Taraclia town.
The head of the Taraclia territorial subdivision for food safety, Elena Tatarli, has said that, immediately after decision-makers had informed her about the incident, specialists of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) came on the spot, where they took samples from dishes, raw material and water, for laboratory investigations.
According to Tatarli, the first symptoms of the disease appeared in three children at 1:00 am on 23 June. On the same day in the afternoon, another 18 children appealed to the camp’s first-aid point with the same symptoms. They were carried and put in the district hospital. All children had fever 37.5-39 degrees, stomachache and headache, weakness, vomit and diarrhea.
ANSA specialists said that, following the control, decision-makers had found out that the camp’s food unit, warehouses and technologic flow met the requirements of the legislation in force. The thermal regime for the preservation of food products was observed. All products are accompanied by sanitary and veterinary, quality and harmlessness certificates.
Following the incident, the authorities ruled to cease the activity of the camp to carry out disinfection procedures and establish the circumstances of the children falling sick.
