Business opportunities in Moldova examined in Washington

Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/- The economic developments in Moldova, the priorities for improving the business environment and the investment opportunities in the country were addressed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Ian Steff at a meeting in Washington, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Filip noted that Moldova has recorded positive economic developments, ensuring the stabilization of the economy and the financial and banking sector. As a result of the reforms promoted in the banking sector, this year, the largest bank from Romania was on the Moldovan banking market, and last week the pre-sale of the stake in the Moldova Agroindbank systemic bank was signed.

Filip pointed out the reforms promoted by the Government, including actions to facilitate the activity of economic agents, which ensured economic growth of 4% in 2016 and 4.5% in 2017. Last year, about 60 thousand jobs were created and investments in the Free Economic Zones amounted to 115 million dollars.

Ian Steff expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in our country, particularly in the IT sector, infrastructure, intellectual property and copyright protection. At the same time, the US official presented a series of US Department of Commerce programs to which business people in our country can apply.

Over the past year, the trade between Moldova and the USA exceeded 89 million dollars, increasing by more than 26% compared to 2016. Thus, the USA ranks 16th in the world among the partner countries with which Moldova has trade relations.
