Moldovan economic ministry reacts to case of motor carriers' protest

Chisinau, 12 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Economics and Infrastructure Ministry (MEI) is willing to continue the dialogue with the transport operators who demand change in the travel tariffs, if the latter come up with a clearly-determined plan, including the gradual adjusting of prices, taking into account the citizens’ payment capacity. More transport companies today protested on the Great National Assembly Square, setting forth their position.
The ministry informed that it was considering the reasoning of increase in tariffs, analyzing the correctness of the calculation methodology and consulting the members of the Consultative Council in the road transport sector in this process. At the same time, all decisions on tariffs will be subjected to public consultations.
MEI noted that it was holding a permanent dialogue will all employers’ associations of the road transport field and that it had held a string of meetings, during which it discussed the problems and deficiencies faced by the transport operators.
„As a result, decision-makers identified a string of proposals on the amendment of the legislation in the field, both the fiscal and the contravention one, and representatives of employers’ associations are to formulate and present a joint proposal to the ministry to improve the legislative framework,” a press release spread by MEI reads.
At the same time, MEI considers that any demand on behalf of carriers to increase the tariff must come with their assuming quality indexes for the services provided to citizens.
More carriers today came to the centre of Moldova’s capital to demand the adjusting of the travel tariffs, reasoning that they had losses. Economics and Infrastructure Minister Vadim Brinzan has earlier admitted that the tariffs should have been adjusted back in 2013.
