Council of Europe backs reform processes in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/- The results of the projects carried out within the Action Plan 2017-2020 of the Council of Europe for the Republic of Moldova, the CoE's support for the confidence building measures between both banks of the Dniester, as well as other issues of Moldova's cooperation with this organization were discussed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu with new Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić, during the 24 September meeting.
According to the MAEIE’s press service, the officials appreciated the results of the projects within the Action Plan 2017-2020 of the Council of Europe for Moldova, and welcomed the launch of the second phase of the Partnership for good governance CoE-EU for the Eastern Partnership countries 2019-2021.
Popescu appreciated the support that the Council of Europe gives to Moldova in modernizing and implementing the democratic reforms, noting the importance of the expertise offered by the Council of Europe.
Also, they noted the need to promote further confidence building measures between the two banks of the Dniester supported by the Council of Europe through the programs for the academic environment and students and the benefits of extending this cooperation on the field of human rights in the Transnistrian region.
Popescu informed the high official about the efforts of the Chisinau authorities in order to conclude the monitoring procedure of the Republic of Moldova by the Council of Europe, while reiterating the will to advance the level of cooperation with this organization.
Marija Pejčinović Burić was elected as Secretary General of the Council of Europe on June 26, 2019 and took office on September 18, 2019.
