Moldovan president meets representatives of Jewish organizations

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/- During the working visit to New York, President Igor Dodon met with representatives of Jewish organizations, such as the American Jewish Committee, the World Jewish Congress, Bnai Brith and the National Coalition to Support the Eurasian Jews, the presidential press service has reported.
Dodon said that the dialogue between the Republic of Moldova, the Jewish organizations and the State of Israel is a constructive one. In this context, the head of state communicated about making a productive visit to Israel in December 2018, and the meeting that took place in Chisinau, in May, with the delegation of the National Coalition in Support of Eurasian Jews. At the same time, the president pleaded for boosting the dialogue with the leaders of the international Jewish organizations, including on the issues regarding the cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with the USA and the State of Israel.
Also, Igor Dodon confirmed the intention of our country to promote the fight against anti-Semitism, cultivating the Holocaust memory, preserving the Jewish historical and cultural heritage, etc., which includes the optional study discipline on the history of the Holocaust and the establishment of the Jewish History Museum in the Republic of Moldova.
The official noted that Jewish cemeteries in our country are being restored. In this context, Dodon assured that the President's Administration will continue to provide all necessary assistance in this regard.
In another context, he informed Jewish organizations about the presidential legislative initiative on criminal liability for heroizing and glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism in Moldova.
At the end of the meeting, Dodon confirmed his participation in the World Holocaust Forum in Yad Vashem, due on January 23, 2020, in Jerusalem.
