Moldovan foreign affairs minister has meetings with counterparts from Georgia, Finland, Slovenia in New York

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/ - Subjects on the bilateral cooperation agenda, implementation of reforms’ agenda in Moldova, advancement in the process of Moldova’s European integration, as well as the cooperation within international organizations were among the topics discussed by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu with his counterparts from Georgia, Finland and Slovenia, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly today, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.    

At the meeting with Georgian Foreign Affairs Minister David Zalkaliani, the discussions were focused on the boosting of trade and economic exchanges. The officials spoke out for the holding of an ordinary meeting of the Moldovan-Georgian inter-governmental commission in the economic sector on the next period. Also, the sides tackled the strengthening of the bilateral dialogue, in the context of promoting the European integration and implementing the association agreements signed by Moldova and Georgia with the European Union.      

During the meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Finland Pekka Haavisto, the Moldovan diplomacy head considered prospects for the promotion of new initiatives of European partnership, as well as the bilateral governmental cooperation. The Moldovan foreign affairs minister thanked for the assistance provided by Finland to Moldova within cooperation programmes in such sectors as observance of human rights, health, rights of people with disabilities, press freedom and media transparency.      

At the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs Minister of Slovenia Miro Cerar, Minister Nicu Popescu expressed appreciation for the assistance and political support Slovenia was providing to Moldova in the European integration process. At the same time, he stressed the need to consolidate the political dialogue and the sectoral cooperation between the two states. In this respect, the Moldovan diplomacy head conveyed an invitation to his Slovenian counterpart to pay a visit to Chisinau on the next period.
