Moldovan foreign affairs minister, OSCE Secretary General discuss Transnistrian settlement process

Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ - Up-to-date subjects and of priority interest on security, in particular, concerning issues related to the Transnistrian settlement process and strengthening the OSCE’s mandate in Moldova, were the main topics of a 25 September meeting between Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu and OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
The two officials exchanged opinions on the Transnistrian settlement process according to the principles agreed upon internationally, including within the OSCE.
A special subject of the discussion was the destruction of the ammunitions from of Colbasna, with a first step to this end being the carrying out of an international inspection at the concerned depot.
At the same time, Minister Nicu Popescu reiterated the priority attention paid by Moldova to the withdrawal of the Russian troops and ammunitions from the left bank of Dniester, noting the importance of OSCE’s support on this purpose.
Thomas Greminger reiterated OSCE’s strong commitment in Moldova to make progress in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process by peaceful means.
Also, the officials reviewed other activities on the agenda of the Moldova-OSCE cooperation, regarding the organization of free elections, fighting the trafficking of human beings, freedom of expression, etc.
