Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/- The magistrates will convene on 27 September in the General Assembly of Judges despite the decision of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), which challenged this meeting.
The General Assembly of Judges is to be convened on the basis of a decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
On 26 September the members of the CSM held a meeting and decided to challenge the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal on the convening of the General Assembly of Judges. The CSM’s interim management announced the magistrates that there is no "legal basis" for their participation in the extraordinary meeting.
Yesterday, the CSM appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal was rejected as unfounded by the Supreme Court of Justice.
In a speech delivered on 26 September, Prime Minister Maia Sandu expressed concern about the situation in justice, which she described as serious. She noted that the way the General Assembly of Judges is convened reminds of the practice of the former regime.
At the beginning of this month, 87 judges signed a petition requesting the resignation of the members of the Superior Council of Magistracy and asked for an urgent convening of the General Assembly of Judges.
