Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Maia Sandu today met a delegation of the France-Moldova friendship group of the National Assembly of France. The PM expressed condolences on the passing away of the former president of France, Jacques Chirac, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
At the meeting, the prime minister informed the guests of France about the latest social and political developments in Moldova. “The biggest challenge for this cabinet is to re-give to the citizens the confidence in their own country and especially in justice. Just now, when we discuss, a general assembly of judges takes place, through which some forces hope to be able to cease the cleaning of justice. We have the support of the citizens in this reform. We will continue it, as nobody can oppose an entire country,” Maia Sandu said.
The head of the France-Moldova friendship group, Jean-Michel Mis, expressed appreciation of France for the government’s efforts to promote reforms. The official noted that Moldova can rely on the support of the French lawmakers, not only within the National Assembly, but also within other European forums, such as the Council of Europe.
The sides also tackled more aspects of the Moldovan-French cooperation, among which: recognizing the driver’s licences, investment opportunities in Moldova, regional security, cultural and linguistic collaboration. The sectors of interest of the Moldovan economy, according to the French MPs, are the export in farming products, solar and wind energy, infrastructure of roads and railways.
Maia Sandu thanked for the support provided by France for the promotion of Moldova’s European agenda of reforms. “The Association Agreement with EU stays at the basis of this cabinet’s work. We are happy that France expressed interest in investing in a project on modernization of the Chisinau-Ungheni railway segment, as well as in other infrastructure projects, meant to connect Moldova to the European area,” the prime minister said.
