General Assembly of Judges decides to dismiss six members of Superior Council of Magistrates of Moldova

Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ – Six members of the Superior Council of Magistracy /SCM/ have been dismissed, on Friday, 27 September, from their position by the decision of the General Assembly of Judges (AGJ). The hearing, attended by over 200 magistrates, lasted 08 hours.
The assembly took place despite of the decision of the Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM), which qualified it as illegal. The event started in the morning, at 10:00, but not until after lunch there were not enough judges to meet the required quorum. For several hours, the judges gave speeches from the forum, in which they argued their desire to dismiss the members of CSM. The magistrates from Romania also participated in the meeting, which criticised the justice reform, especially the proposal to evaluate the judges in the system by a special commission.
At the General Assembly of Magistrates (AGM), it was present only 01 member of CSM, ex – head of CSM Victor Micu.
For dismissal of the acting head of CSM, Dorel Musteata, there voted 164 of the 202 magistrates present at the meeting. Victor Micu was dismissed with 118 votes, Anatolie Galben with 162 votes, Luiza Gafton, Petru Moraru and Nina Cernat were cast with 167 votes. The alternate member Anatolie Pahapol was dismissed with 155 votes in favour and 18 against.
At the end of hearing, the magistrates have decided that another Extraordinary Assembly of Judges (AEJ) will be held in upcoming weeks, during which it will be elected another full set of members of CSM.
The acting head of CSM, Dorel Musteata, has mentioned for more mass media sources that he does not recognise the decision of AGJ.
