Regulation on pre-selection of candidates for office of Moldova's Prosecutor General published

Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ - The regulation on the way of organization and carrying out of the pre-selection of candidates for the office of Prosecutor General was published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) of Moldova today.
Under the document, the pre-selection of candidates for the position of Prosecutor General will be made by a commission created by the Justice Ministry. The commission will be made up of the justice minister, one former prosecutor or one former judge with at least ten years of experience, one international expert with a rich experience in the Prosecutor’s Office or in the anticorruption sector, one recognized expert or a titular professor in the law field, one representative of the civil society, one recognized national expert nominated by the parliament speaker and one psychologist, without right to vote.
The pre-selection will be organized in two stages: the competition of files submitted and the interview test. The candidates failing to get at least 60 per cent of the maximal number of points set for the stage of files’ assessment are not allowed to the interview. The information on starting the pre-selection of candidates for the office of Prosecutor General will be published on the webpage of the Justice Ministry, 15 days before the deadline for submitting the files at the earliest.
The list of pre-selected candidates for the office of Prosecutor General and their files are submitted to the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), which, out of the concerned list, will select and put forward the candidate for the position of Prosecutor General to the Moldovan president for appointment. If CSP returns the list of candidates, the Commission can decide on the resumption of the pre-selection or can return the initially submitted list to CSP.
The new rules for appointment of the Prosecutor General entered into force on 21 September 2019.
