Report on functioning of democratic institutions in Moldova to be submitted to PACE

Chisinau, 30 September /MOLDPRES/ – The report on the functioning of democratic institutions in Moldova will be presented, on 03 October, in Strasbourg, during the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The authors of the document are co – rapporteurs of the Commission for honouring the obligations and commitments of the Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee), Egidijus Vareikis (Lithuania) and Maryvonne Blondin (France).
The report refers to the actions taken by authorities of Moldova upon depoliticisation and assurance of independence of state institutions, in particular, in justice system, fighting corruption, elucidating circumstances of devaluation of banking system.
The agenda of the session also includes nomination of the winner of the Peace Prize Václav Havel, the name of which will be announced until the end of today. The prize will be presented during a special ceremony during the plenary session.
Also, French President Emmanuel Macron will give a speech to the PACE MPs on Tuesday, 01 October.
The PACE will also focus on the issues of whistleblower protection, general standards of ombudsman institutions and protection of victims of terrorism, as well as preservation of Jewish cultural heritage. The members of PACE will also discuss reports on "climate refugees" and labour migration in Eastern Europe, obstetric and gynecological violence, etc.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) convened in the autumn session, takes place on 30 September – 04 October, in Strasbourg.
The head of the national delegation to PACE is Doina Gherman, the head of the Commission on Human Rights and Interethnic Relations, delegation members, deputy head of the Environment and Regional Development Commission, Inga Grigoriu, and a member of the Commission on Foreign Policy and European Integration, Andrian Candu.
