Ministry of Justice starts preselection of candidates for prosecutor general's position

Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Justice initiated the selection of candidates for the Prosecutor General position. The deadline for submitting applications is 20 October.
According to the Ministry of Justice, people who hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, know the Romanian language, have a professional experience of at least 10 years in law, of which at least 5 years as prosecutor or judge or 8 years as lawyer or criminal prosecution officer – can apply for this position. Candidates must have managerial skills. At the same time, people who in the last 6 months did not hold the membership of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) and who in the last three years have not been a member and / or have not carried out political activities within a political party will be eligible.
The documents for participation in the competition will be submitted personally to the Ministry of Justice's headquarters, by post or by e-mail. The file will contain in particular the request to participate in the competition, the letter of motivation, the concept of management and institutional development and the curriculum vitae.
The pre-selection of candidates for the position of Prosecutor General was initiated after yesterday the Regulation on its organization and conduct was published in the Official Journal of Moldova.
The new rules for appointing the Prosecutor General came into force on 21 September. According to them, the candidate will be elected through a public contest, carried out in two stages. In the first stage, the candidates will be pre-selected by an independent commission set up at the Ministry of Justice. At the second stage, the CSP, from the list proposed by the commission, will select candidate and propose for appointment to the President of the Republic of Moldova.
The position of Prosecutor General remained vacant on 11 July after Eduard Harunjen resigned. Currently, the interim function is provided by Dumitru Robu.
