Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/- The head of the OSCE mission to Moldova, Claus Neukirch, said in an interview for MOLDPRES that the meeting in the 5 + 2 format due in Bratislava will review the implementation of the agreements signed in the Berlin plus package.
"Last year we have not had the opportunity to talk, there has been no consensus on the political issue of the Transnistrian region. We want to discuss the special status again, but we are not yet at this point, ”Neukirch said.
According to him, "all the small steps we have taken (by signing the agreements in the Berlin plus package) are for building the special status of the Transnistrian region in the Republic of Moldova," said the European official.
Neukirch noted that the mandate got by the OSCE in 1992 "clearly refers" to a special status for the Transnistrian region within Moldova, respecting its integrity and sovereignty.
The meeting in the 5+2 format on the negotiations to solve the Transnistrian problem will be held in Bratislava, Slovakia, on October 8-10. The Slovak state holds the OSCE chairmanship for 2019.
