Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Maia Sandu, in the beginning a today’s cabinet meeting, demanded the toughening of the legislation as to the drivers driving drunk.
„In the awful accident, which took place in Buiucani district, we saw how much the state’s weak institutions, vulnerable, irresponsible institutions cost us. We have once again seen how corruption kills and leave people with health problems for many years ahead. I wonder how it is possible for a person with more than five criminal files and 40 contravention ones to be allowed to drive a vehicle?,” the prime minister said.
„I want to make clear on all these cases, I mean the Interior Ministry (MAI) and Justice. Let us make clear at each stage and for each case, when at least in theory, this person was sanctioned, who are the people involved, if the decisions were according to the infringements,” the PM also said.
Maia Sandu asked the competent bodies to make radiography of these cases, as “unfortunately, this is not the only case,” and to tell the citizens how it happened that such a person was allowed to drive and trigger such losses. The prime minister demanded concrete proposals on automatically depriving these persons of driver’s licence for many years and establishing, under law, of tough sanctions for those who are driving drunk.
The road safety council will convene at a meeting next week, the participants in which will consider a large number of measures, the PM also said.
The woman driver, who triggered the last Monday accident from the Buiucani district of Chisinau, which resulted in one person dead and 25 injured, had a level of alcohol in expired air of 2.15 mg/litre, Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Ala Nemerenco said at the cabinet meeting.
According to the same source, the woman’s health condition continues to be serious; she is connected to apparatus; yet, the first signs of positive dynamic appeared today. Another victim of the accident, a woman with injures of the chest, is also in a serious condition and the other patient is operated on today, after he had been injured at the thighbone. Nine persons victims of the accident from the Buiucani district remain put in the Emergency Hospital.
