Prosecutors open criminal file on pollution of water, air in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) today informed that it had opened a criminal file on the fact of pollution of water and air in the Chisinau municipality, as well as on the incorrect management of financial means at the Apa-Canal Chisinau stock company, which caused damages worth about 70 million lei.
Data by PG shows that, as a result of investigations underway, prosecutors revealed that “the pollution of air in the Chisinau municipality and the Bic river is due to the fact that the technological process was not observed at the water-purifying station from Chisinau.”
According to the quoted source, the non-observance of the technological process caused damages to the environment worth 39,616,661.54 lei.
Prosecutors discovered irregularities also in the work of decision-makers from the Apa-Canal Chisinau stock company. They are suspected of abuse of office, after law-enforcers have detected non-conformities incompatible with the law concerning the management of financial means, invested to maintain the technological process of treating residual waters. These irregularities committed by the leadership of the Apa-Canal Chisinau have inflicted another damages worth 30,365,000 lei.
