Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/- Passenger carriers announce they will organize another protest in the capital on 9 October, as being dissatisfied with travel fares.
The Employers' Association of Road Transport Operators (APOTA) announced today that the protest will bring together about 200 participants, mostly bus drivers. At the same time, APOTA said that several car races will be suspended on the same day.
APOTA Council head Oleg Alexa said that the tariff requested by the carriers is 0.92 lei per kilometer, compared to the current price of 0.48 lei, almost double.
APOTA also organized a protest in the Great National Assembly Square on 12 September. In a response issued then, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure said it is willing to continue dialogue with carriers seeking change fares, if they come up with a clearly determined action plan, including the gradual adjustment of prices, given people’s ability to pay. At the same time, MEI says that any request from carriers to increase the tariff must come with assumption of quality indices for the services provided to citizens.
