People campaigning on election day risk fines

Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/- Election agitation on election day and the day before the election will be punished with a fine. A draft law on amending the Contravention Code was voted today in the final reading by the parliament.

The draft law comes to bring the contravention code in line with the provisions of the Electoral Code, which prohibits campaigning both on election day and on the day before elections.

According to Article 52 of the Contravention Code, campaigning on the day preceding voting day or on election day is sanctioned with a fine of 10-20 conventional units for private people and a fine of 40- 50 conventional units for official person or electoral candidate.

The law will enter into force after publication in the Official Journal of Moldova.
