Education workers of Moldova celebrate professional day

Chisinau, 05 October /MOLDPRES/ – The education workers mark their Professional Day, on Saturday, 05 October. The teachers of Moldova were congratulated by several officials on it.
On the eve of the professional day of education worker, there were nominated and awarded the winners of contest: Teacher of the Year 2019. Also, several teachers of Moldova received diplomas of the Government, the Parliament and President.
The statistical data presented by the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS) today show that, in recent 08 years, the education system of Moldova has lacked almost 11,000 teachers, their number being 49,090 in 2018 – 2019, compared to 60,690 in 2010 – 2011.
The number of schools in Moldova, as well as the number of pupils, has been reduced. Thus, in 2018 – 2019, compared to 2013 – 2014, the number of primary and general secondary education institutions has decreased from 1,374 to 1,246 ones, and the number of pupils – from 353,000 to 334,000 ones.
The statistical data also show that at the beginning of the year of studies 2018 – 2019, the total number of pupils and students constituted 439,000 persons, or each 8th inhabitant of Moldova. Compared to 2013 – 2014, the total number of pupils and students decreased by 58,900 ones, or by 11.8 per cent.
The average monthly earnings in education constituted MDL 5,147 in 2018.
The International Day of the Education Worker, marked annually on 05 October, was established by UNESCO in 1994.
