Moldovan cabinet approves plan for organizing Day of commemorating people dead in Afghanistan War

Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - The acting government today approved a decision on the organization and holding of manifestations dedicated to the day of commemorating the people dead in the Afghanistan War (15 February).
The cabinet members ruled to set up an organizational committee for carrying out the events dedicated to the day of commemorating the people dead in the Afghanistan War (15 February) and to approve its nominal composition. Acting Defence minister Victor Gaiciuc will chair the committee.
The government also approved a plan of activities for marking the day of commemorating the people dead in the Afghanistan War. ‘’The carrying out of the actions included in the aforementioned plan will be made at the expense of the means of the authorities involved, as well as from other sources, under the legislation. The local public administration authorities are recommended to identify the financial means necessary for carrying out the commemorative actions provided for in the aforementioned plan,’’ the document reads.
The 32nd anniversary of the withdrawal of the limited contingent of Soviet military troops from Afghanistan will be marked on 15 February 2021. About 12,000 Moldovans participated in the Afghanistan War (1979-1989), of whom about 300 died on battlefields and 700 were wounded.
