Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi sent a congratulatory message today on European Data Protection Day, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The message says:

"It is 40 years since the signing of the Convention for the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of personal data in Strasbourg. Since 1981, every year on 28 January we mark the European Data Protection Day.

The signing of this international treaty was the beginning of the regulation at European level of the rules for processing personal data. The signatory states were committed to comply with the Convention so that the personal data collected and processed are real, accurate, non-excessive and confidential.

In 2007, the National Center for Personal Data Protection was set up in the Republic of Moldova, an authority responsible for controlling the legality of processing personal data. The institution has got the status of autonomous public authority, independent from other public authorities, private people and legal entities. The CNPDCP's goal is to protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of private people, especially the right to privacy on the cross-border processing and transmission of personal data.

Dear CNPDCP employees,

As your role is extremely important for our country and for each citizen, I want to urge you to remain equally objective in actions, to love your profession and to be proud of the contribution you bring through your work in protecting European freedoms and democratic principles.

On behalf of the Moldovan government, I express gratitude for the effort and I wish you health and great achievements ”.
