About 50 schools from central, southern Moldova cease work because of bad weather

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - More education institutions from central and southern Moldova have ceased working today, in the wake of the heavy snowfall and disconnection from power supply, the Education, Culture and Research Ministry (MECC) has reported.
According to the ministry, 48 general education institutions from the districts of Anenii-Noi, Basarabeasca, Cahul, Cantemir, Calarasi, Causeni, Cimislia, Ialoveni, Leova, Nisporeni, Orhei, Rezina, Stefan Voda, Taraclia and the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia ceased their activity with the physical presence of people, of which 41 institutions carry out distance learning and seven institutions will not work today over the lack of electric energy.
Also, 54 early education institutions from the aforementioned districts suspended their work: 35 carry out distance education, 19 do not work because of the lack of electricity and two institutions have reduced schedule of work.
„At the same time, because of the unfriendly weather conditions, 52 routes of transport for pupils were suspended; thus, 2,887 pupils were not transported,’’ MECC said.
The Education, Culture and Research Ministry urges the education community: teachers, pupils and parents – to be prudent and observe the authorities’ recommendations, in order to prevent risk situations triggered by the bad weather.
