Moldovan acting PM attends meeting of Interior Ministry's College

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today participated in a meeting of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) College. Attending the event was the MAI leadership, representatives of subordinated institutions, Moldova’s prosecutor general, the director of the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), director of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) and others, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
At the meeting, the head of the General Police Inspectorate, Sergiu Paiu, referred to the results achieved in the prevention and combating of criminality, institution’s problems, as well as priorities for the future. The IGP leadership noted that a decrease in the crime rate of about 17.5 per cent had been recorded in 2020 against the same period of the year before. Thus, about 24,000 offences were registered in 2020, of which 30 per cent – in Chisinau.
The head of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police, Valentin Fiodor, stressed that the subdivision’s work had been focused on combating the cross-border criminality in the situation imposed by the Covid-19 virus. In this respect, a large number of illegal deeds were recorded, which is by 156 per cent more against the same period of the last year. Thus, border policemen imposed fines worth about 13 million lei and collected about six million lei.
The participants in the meeting also highlighted problems faced by MAI subdivisions, such as: strengthening the relation with other international public authorities, updating the institution’s database, improving the police sectors in the rural environment, shortening the police teams’ intervention time, etc.
MAI Secretary General Ianus Erhan informed that the Interior Ministry’s action plan for 2020 had been carried out at a level 79 per cent. In particular, the citizens’ level of confidence in the police grew by about seven per cent in 2019-2020.
The participants in the event approved the MAI’s activity plan, which implies 22 operational goals and 24 actions established for various sectors. It is worth mentioning that MAI’s Plan for 2021 covers the actions established in the government’s action plan for 2020-2023 and other commitments taken. The participants in the meeting also approved the activity plan of the MAI’s College for this year.
Acting PM Aureliu Ciocoi thanked the policemen for the activity from the last year in extremely difficult conditions. At the same time, the prime minister suggested that representatives of the subordinated institutions speak out for a better communications in the external relations.
„The international cooperation is crucial at present, including as regards the combating of corruption and cross-border cooperation. These are needed elements which must be permanently stimulated. Also, I want to thank you for the effort you make; I know how difficult it is for you; I understand quite well the difficulties faced by the inspectorates in the rural zone, especially at the periphery of Moldova. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do, for the fact that, no matter the hardships you have, you remain faithful to the principle of order and justice,’’ Aureliu Ciocoi added.
