Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with United Nations Resident Coordinator in Moldova Simon Springett and the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Moldova, Igor Pokanevych. The officials discussed the as quick as possible access to the vaccine for Moldova’s citizens, backing the economic recovery and response to the deepening of poverty, coming as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, the presidential press service has reported.

„I thanked my interlocutors for the assistance provided last year to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and back the healthcare system and voiced hope that we will enjoy the same openness in the issue of access to the anti-Covid-19 vaccine too,’’ Maia Sandu said.

President Maia Sandu said that Moldova relied on the support of the UN and United Nations Agencies on the post-pandemic period, both to help those who are at risk, following the loss or decrease in revenues, and to reform the health sector, ensuring its sustainability. ‘’I stressed that only by strengthening the key sectors, ceasing the corruption and improving the economy, we will manage to prompt the citizens not to leave the country,’’ Maia Sandu added.

At the meeting, Simon Springett gave Maia Sandu a congratulatory letter on behalf of United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, on the occasion of the election in the office of Moldova’s president.
