Decision-makers from more institutions in charge of assisting people, economic sector summonned at Moldova's Presidency

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today summoned to a meeting decision-makers from more institutions in charge of assisting people and the economic sector, in the context of the social and economic crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, the presidential press service has reported.

During the discussions, in which acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi participated too, the head of state demanded information on measures undertaken and the ones planned, in order to support the people who remained without incomes following the loss of jobs, about the support mechanisms for small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the actions planned to this end for this year.

Maia Sandu warned representatives of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, Finance Ministry, Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, National Social Insurances House, National Employment Agency and the Organization for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises Sector Development that, according to the recent estimations, in 2020, tens of thousands of Moldovan citizens had got under the threshold of poverty because of the pandemic. Also, the last year put at risk thousands of small- and medium-sized enterprises, which had to diminish their work, respectively, the number of employees, or even to close.      

„In the lack of a government with full powers, these institutions are obliged to identify solutions to help people and the small- and medium-sized business,’’ the Moldovan president said at the meeting.  

The head of state demanded that the participants urgently elaborate mechanisms which would simplify the procedures of getting the unemployment benefit, other forms of assistance, so that as many as possible people at risk receive this aid. Also, the participants in the meeting discussed the as quick as possible enforcement of the mechanism of subsidizing the enterprises which employ disabled persons, young people, persons who lost their jobs in Moldova or abroad because of the pandemic.
