Moldovan president, OSCE chairwoman-in-office discuss subjects on Transnistrian file

Chisinau, 17 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and Foreign Affairs Minister of Sweden, OSCE Chairwoman-in-Office Ann Linde today discussed the ensuring of the fundamental human rights and freedoms on the left bank of Dniester, including the right to free movement, pandemic situation in the region, re-launch of the process of negotiations, as well as priorities of the bilateral cooperation, the presidential press service has reported.   

„We brought for discussion up-to-date subjects concerning the Transnistrian file. I referred to problems faced by people from the settlements on the Dniester bank and I repeatedly stressed our determination to find exclusively peaceful ways for the rapprochement between the two banks, as well as the fact that the residents from the left bank of Dniester are citizens of Moldova with full-fledged rights,’’ the head of state said.  

At the meeting, President Maia Sandu and Minister Ann Linde discussed the bilateral cooperation, as Sweden for more years has been one of the biggest supporters of Moldova on the European stage, as well as one of the biggest donors of the country. ‘’I informed the Swedish partners about the actions of cleaning the justice sector and combating corruption, we are to undertake, the domestic political situation and the priorities in the long run. Among them, I highlighted the education, environment and resistance to the climate changes, reformation of public institutions,’’ Maia Sandu said.  

The Moldovan president thanked Sweden for the financial and political support provided to Moldova during time, including within the Eastern Partnership. In the context, the sides agreed that Moldova should contribute to Sweden’s new strategy of foreign assistance for our region for 2021-2027. The strategy is presently worked out by the Stockholm government and from which Moldova will be able to benefit as well.
