Chisinau, 27 May /MOLDPRES/- Over 100,000 Moldovan citizens abroad have registered in advance to participate in snap parliamentary elections on 11 July.
The registration procedure ended on 26 May. The largest number of Moldovan citizens who announced their intention to participate in the vote are those residing in Italy - 21,803 compatriots.
The Moldovan diaspora in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was equally active, 16,183 citizens announcing their intention to vote.
On 25 May, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has addressed a request to the Central Electoral Commission on opening of a larger number of polling stations abroad than in the presidential elections. According to the request, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration is considering the possibility of doubling the number of polling stations where more than 5,000 Moldovan citizens voted to avoid violating the right to vote.
In the 2020 presidential elections, in several polling stations open abroad, the ballot papers were exhausted or the time required for voting expired before all those who wanted to vote.
