Over 11 per cent of Moldova's population immunized against Covid-19

Chisinau, 15 June /MOLDPRES/ - More than 1.3 million vaccine doses have been received in Moldova so far. The first dose was administered to about 386,000 people and the second dose – to about 153,000, with about 539,000 doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccine administered in all.   

The head of the specialty commission in epidemiology at the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry (MSMPS), Angela Paraschiv, set forth data to this effect at a news conference today.   

“Presently, the coverage with vaccination in Moldova is 11 per cent with one dose and about 5 per cent with two doses. In the context, we urge the residents to be vaccinated, in order to reach the coverage rate of 70 per cent, which would ensure the security nationally,’’ Angela Paraschiv said.

In another context, Paraschiv noted that about 60 per cent of the immunized people were men and about 80 per cent are people older than 40. ‘’In the last week, 60,000 vaccine doses have been administered or, unfortunately, a slight decrease in the immunization process is recorded. Therefore, against a background of the increase in the number of cases in other countries of the world, the vaccination is prescribed, as the danger of infection still persists. The immunization is the only salvation and solution, in order to return to normal as soon as possible,’’ the epidemiologist said. At the same time, Paraschiv estimated a good situation as regards the immunization of the medical staff, which has reached 90 per cent of the system’s employees, with no case of infection in the last week.  

Attending the news conference, the manager of the national immunization programme and of the group of communication concerning the vaccination against COVID-19, Ninel Revenco, referred to the green vaccination passports. ‘’For the moment, we have no information on joining this green vaccination passport, which will be active as of 1 July. Moldova is not a European Union member and we discuss only the eligibility of these certificates of immunization received in our country and whether they will be recognized in other states, including EU,’’ Ninel Revenco said.   

Nevertheless, MSMPS representatives warned that ‘’the certificates of vaccination issued in Moldova following the immunization are in three languages, have the necessary signs and allow the crossing of the border, being valid and allowing their owners to avoid the quarantine period.’’
