Moldovan oenologist's 125th anniversary

Chisinau, 27 August /MOLDPRES/- Today we mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of Pimen Cupcea, agronomist, professor, eminent oenologist from the late 50s of the twentieth century.

He created multiple blends, using various technological methods, chooses and combines grapes of different varieties. He performed dozens of experiments and practical applications. He restored the technology of Negru de Purcari (1960) and Rosu de Purcari (1964) wines.

Purcari Red Wine has won gold and silver medals at various international exhibitions, it is exported. In a memorial volume, the former president of the Union of Wine Exporters of the Republic of Moldova, the late Gheorghe Cozub, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, who for 2 years (1963–1964) worked with Pimen Cupcea, brings a motivation the fact why Pimen Cupcea was chosen to research and rediscover Purcari wines: “Because he was an alert, intelligent man, he did not like standard things and preferred to think a lot. As a specialist, he was extremely good at assessing the quality of wines. He was an exceptional taster ... No one could lie to him when it came to wines ”.

He died on March 14, 1964, in Chisinau.
