Chisinau, 3 November /MOLDPRES/- Parliament's Environment and Regional Development Committee has examined the issue of deforestation and measures taken by the Ministry of Environment and the Moldsilva Agency to stop illegal logging of forest vegetation.
The members of the commission paid a working visit to the State Enterprise for Forestry Călărași, subordinated to the Moldsilva Agency, and took note of the reports of the entities responsible for the management of the forestry field.
During the discussions, issues related to the effective management of the forest fund were addressed with emphasis on the urgent need to expand it. Also, the aspects related to the elaboration of the new Forestry Code were discussed, as well as the vision of the entities subordinated to the relevant ministry on the sustainable development of the forest fund.
"Another topic discussed was the irregularities detected during the controls performed by the control body in the field, as well as the measures taken to counteract the illegal logging. The need to establish clear rules for the marketing of firewood has been emphasized, minimizing the involvement of intermediaries which leads to an exaggerated, in many cases fictitious, increase in the final price ", according to a Commission statement.
