Chisinau, Dec. 2 / MOLDPRES /- Police and prosecutors announced today that they found and picked up 6 other cars that were allegedly stolen from EU countries. The action took place in an operation involving the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, Romania, France, Germany, Hungary, under the auspices of the South-East European Law Enforcement Center.
According to police, 38 cars stolen from the EU were identified in the international operation NETWORK. During the documentation, it was established that the means of transport, after being stolen, had their body identification elements modified. The cars were later smuggled into the country, and when crossing the border, cloned license plates were placed on other officially registered cars, thus falsifying documents for the cloned license plates. The cars were then registered on the basis of fraudulently obtained European documents and put up for sale on the country's car market.
So far, 38 stolen cars have been identified and seized during the international operation, causing material damage of about 15 million lei to the buyers.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine all the circumstances and people involved in the fraudulent scheme.
