Chisinau, August 20 /MOLDPRES/- The municipality of Ungheni celebrates today 560 years since the first documentary attestation.
"It is an honorable age, an imposing course of a locality that appeared more than five centuries ago on the banks of the Prut and which, thanks to our ancestors, developed, reaching, at the present moment, a flourishing municipality, in full ascent", it is said in the celebration message of the mayor of Ungheni, Alexandru Ambros.
According to the mayor, "the people of Unghen have always known how to work, how to be happy, how to overcome troubles and difficult trials, so that they can move forward with their heads held high".
The town of Ungheni is one of the oldest towns in the Republic of Moldova. Its first documentary attestation dates from August 20, 1462, in a charter from the ruler Ştefan cel Mare. Here the river Prut forms a perfect angle through a sudden turn. Only after two centuries, in 1645, the settlement appears mentioned with its current name, Ungheni.
