Chisinau, Oct. 4 /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said he will do everything possible to keep the citizens of the Republic of Moldova out of the war in Ukraine. The statement was made today during a press conference.
The official urged citizens not to get involved in this military conflict. "We do not have information on cases of recruitment of compatriots, but it is absolutely illegal for citizens of the Republic of Moldova to be employed in mercenary activity," said Nicu Popescu.
The official said that in connection with the considerable increase in the number of applications for the completion of travel documents at the consular section of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Russian Federation, it was decided to extend the work program on days off.
"In the last two weeks, the number of citizens of the Republic of Moldova who want to return to the country from the Russian Federation has increased. Thus, on days off, the consular section of the embassy was opened to deal with requests for travel documents. Our citizens do not want to be drawn into this war. The situation is more complicated for people who also hold the citizenship of the Russian Federation and are obliged to comply with the legislative framework in this country, including mobilization", said the official.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on September 21 a partial military mobilization in Russia to fulfill the objectives of the "special military operation" in Ukraine.
