Chisinau, 16 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Balti city of Moldova and Iasi municipality of Romania have become twin cities. The official twinning agreement was signed by the mayors of the two cities, Nicolai Grigorisin and Mihai Chirica, in Balti on 15 January.
„Iasi is closely connected with the cities of Stephen the Great’s Moldova through the common history, traditions, language and Romanian feelings and on this firm foundation, we are set to deepen the cultural, economic, academic, sports and tourist relations,’’ Mihai Chirica said.
The Iasi delegation laid wreaths of flowers at the bust to the National Poet, Mihai Eminescu, from the Mihai Eminescu Theoretical Lyceum, as well as at the monument on the Alley of Classics of the National Culture. Thanks to Romania’s general consul in Balti, Petrișor - Ionel Dumitrescu, the delegation from Iasi visited the Alecu Russo State University from Balti, where the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University from Iasi has a university extension.
„I thank the partners from Moldova for hosting, for the friendship showed and for every openness to edify new and new relations,’’ mayor Mihai Chirica said.
