Orthodox Christians celebrate Holy Easter

Chisinau, 16 April /MOLDPRES/ -The Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Holy Easter, regarded as the greatest holiday of the Christianity, which means the Resurrection of the Lord.
On this occasion, religious services were officiated in the churches of Moldova and thousands of Moldovans went to churches to take the Holy Fire. The Holy Fire from Jerusalem was carried to Moldova this year as well.
In his pastoral letter, Metropolitan of Chisinau and All Moldova, Most Right Reverend Vladimir said that, the glorious holiday of the Resurrection of the Lord reminded us, year after year, that the Son of God had come in the world, embodied and became Man, in order to release the people from the slavery of the death and return them to their Creator and Father, reestablishing them as sons and inheritors of His Kingdom.
The Easter Holidays are celebrated during three days. The Holy Easter is preceded by a long period of the Lent and on the last week of the Lent, called the Passion Week, the Entry of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem is marked.
On the eve of the Easter, the Christians prepare their baskets with food products and carry them to churches be blessed. At the same time, believers clink together red eggs, which signify the new life received through the Blood of the Savior.
In 2024, the Orthodox Easter will be celebrated on 5 May and in 2025 – on 20 April.
