Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The bilateral relations between Romania and Moldova are more solid and more efficient than ever. Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Luminita Odobescu today made statements to this effect at a news conference held jointly with his Moldovan counterpart Nicu Popescu.
The Romanian official stressed that this was her first visit abroad following the appointment to office. ‘’This is my first visit outside Romania; this is not at all by accident. We reviewed subjects of foremost interest. I am happy that we can clearly say that the bilateral relations between Romania and Moldova are more solid and more efficient than ever. The crises triggered by the war in Ukraine did nothing but consolidated the cooperation between Bucharest and Chisinau. The providing of the political and diplomatic support to Moldova for the advancement of the European agenda represents a priority of Romania’s foreign policy. We back the getting of a friendly decision for starting the negotiations on accession to EU as soon as possible. Bucharest is and will be with you at each stage of the European integration way,’’ Luminita Odobescu said.
For his part, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu said that this visit strengthened the brotherly relations between the two countries. ‘’The last year has been a complex one for Moldova, but we have managed to consolidate the relations with Romania, through the constant interaction between the presidencies, governments, parliaments and diplomatic missions. Due to the openness and dialogue we have, the relations with Romania are the strongest ones in the last 30 years. Today we spoke about the organization of the Moldova Support Platform in next autumn. At the same time, we discussed in detail the degree of fulfillment of those nine recommendations of EU. The things advance quite well and we hope that Moldova will get the recommendation to start the negotiations on accession to EU by the end of this year,’’ Nicu Popescu said.
Romania’s Foreign Affairs Minister Luminita Odobescu is on her first working visit to Chisinau on 19-20 June. During the visit, the Romanian official had a meeting with President Maia Sandu on 19 June.
