Chisinau, 5 March /MOLDPRES/ - The construction of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau, Ungheni-Straseni and Balti-Suceava interconnection lines with Romanian electrical power system is planned to be carried out by 2020. Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Stephane Bride and Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca held discussions on the matter at a today's meeting. The two officials exchanged opinions on economic cooperation between the two countries, the Economics Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.

In this context, Stephane Bride said the sustainable development of the energy sector should be accelerated. "Despite all difficulties, we prove that we have a vision and achieve results. Two years ago, the Iasi-Ungheni pipeline was just an idea, approached with skepticism, and on 4 March, we launched the gas supplies deliveries from Romania to 22 settlements from the Ungheni and Nisporeni districts. We are to make an effort to expand the pipeline to Chisinau and finalise the two stations to increase pressure, "one on the Moldovan side and the other in Romania," said the economics minister.

Stephane Bride also stressed the need to speed up electricity interconnection projects with the Romanian and European markets.

For his part, Romanian diplomat Marius Lazurca stressed that the Romanian authorities were open to strengthen their role as a strategic trade partner for Moldova and continue investment projects in the energy sector.
